We’re looking for a switched on and highly analytical Digital UX / UI Designer to join our eCommerce team and help shape the future of Arco’s online experience.
This is a great opportunity to use your skills in research, user stories, prototypes, and high-quality visuals to drive online sales and boost customer engagement.
Arco is undergoing rapid digital transformation which the product team is helping to drive so this is not a standard design role. You’ll work with teams across the business to identify, define, and launch new website and customer portal features. Your role will involve market and customer research, in-depth involvement in development sprints, business testing and launch.
The role is a hybrid position with mix of home and office-based working from our head office in Hull and is a fixed term contract basis until December 2025.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating user flows, wireframes and prototypes using specialist software to develop user experiences covering all devices
- Owning the definition and maintenance of Arco’s online style guide ensuring exhaustive design principles/ rules for all online components
- Introducing and maintaining a central repository of functional wireframes covering all components and pages of the Arco online estate
- Liaising regularly with key stakeholders and attend scrum ceremonies to ensure that UX designs meet the needs of Arco's customers and core business objectives
- Delivering an optimised customer experience in terms of user efficiency and engagement, utilising outputs of usability testing and other customer research
- Working with Product Owners to gather information about their requirements, propose and sketch out a range of visual concepts for approval
- Working closely with, and supporting the digital content strategy, content design and wider UX strategy
- Identifying creative ways to solve UX problems (e.g. usability, findability)
- Contributing to the principles under which front-end development is engineered and maintaining a principle of separation between the functional code and the presentation layer
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of competitor and market behaviours and recommending changes to ensure the Arco experience remains current

The ideal Digital UX Designer will be/have:
- At least 3 years of experience improving websites and digital products; ideally in the eCommerce space or on a significant customer or employee application
- A passionate understanding of the UX landscape, new technology developments and best practice industry thinking
- Expert level in Figma and as a Figma fanatic you will be up to date on recent and upcoming product feature developments
- Not just creative — you’re persuasive too. You can explain the business value of your ideas to senior stakeholders and get them on board
- Curious, driven, and ready to innovate. You’ll need to get to grips quickly with the many features and systems that power our large-scale eCommerce offering
- Worked in diverse teams and know how to solve tough business problems with smart UX solutions
- Exceptional operational understanding of customer-centric UX design and information architecture
- Expertise in UX software packages such as Balsamiq, Sketch, InVision etc with an excellent understanding of web mark-up including HTML5 and CSS
- Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and popular JavaScript libraries and frameworks
- Deep proven understanding of mobile-first and user centric design
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate design language/direction to multiple stakeholders and with the ability to visualise complex data concepts into designs
- Working exposure to operating within both Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies
