As our new Senior Lab Technician, you will play a pivotal role in not only guiding the validation of our methods in line with stringent regulatory requirements but also act as the primary voice of analytical chemical testing - translating complex technical insights for both internal teams and external stakeholders.
The role will be based from our industry leading ISO 17025 accredited Laboratory based at the brand-new Arco Discovery Centre in Hull.
Key responsibilities include:
- Spearheading the development and optimisation of analytical test methods to ensure accuracy, reliability, and efficiency in testing processes whilst leading validation to comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Overseeing the establishment and upkeep of the chemical permeation database specific to Arco products
- Planning, scheduling, and monitoring the compliance of all standardised analytical test methods and laboratory equipment, ensuring adherence to quality standards
- Proactively identifying opportunities for improvement, addressing risks and documenting actions as part of the internal audit requirements, driving corrective actions
- Assisting the Laboratory Manager in training, evaluating laboratory staff, and conducting internal technical and QMS audits
- Managing and prioritising the flow of work into the laboratory to ensure any requests and due diligence testing plans are conducted within defined SLA’s
- Performing laboratory testing in accordance with standard internal and external procedures, following the requirements of the Laboratory Management System thereby ensuring compliance with relevant Management Standards including ISO 17025 and ISO 9001
- Reporting of opinion and interpretation of results when required by internal or external customers
- Assisting in checking new product data with respect to its technical accuracy and regulatory compliance, contribute to the new product development process by advising on the suitability of materials and specifications and by suggesting suitable corrective actions to poorly performing development samples
- Contributing towards technical training and demonstrations for Arco employees and performing technical presentations to customers visiting the department, on-location at customer sites or as part of roadshows
- Actively participating in technical standard committees and trade body technical groups

The ideal Senior Lab Technician (Analytical Chemist) will be/have:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in an ISO/ IEC 17025 compliant Laboratory, including the use of chromatographic and spectrophotometric methodologies, and working with a QMS
- Strong knowledge of organic and physical chemistry, with a focus on material science
- Experience in EHS management and conducting risk assessments
- Knowledge of the regulatory framework surrounding Arco’s products (PPE regulations / REACH / medical devices)
- Familiarity with ISO 17025, accreditation processes, and requirements
- Meticulous attention to detail in processing and reporting data accurately
- Experience in analytical method development and test method validation
- Knowledge of product manufacturing techniques and product construction (safety footwear, gloves, clothing, and PPE)
- Advanced Microsoft Office experience, particularly Excel and Word
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A relevant degree in Chemistry or a relatable field
- Detailed knowledge of safety footwear, gloves and clothing test methods and standards is desirable
