The Fleet Manager is a newly created role within Arco, responsible for managing a fleet of approximately 300 vehicles, primarily leased with a small number of owned assets. This critical role ensures efficient, safe, and compliant fleet operations, contributing significantly to the organisation's performance and success.
The role will predominantly be hybrid working from Hull and your home office, with occasional travel across the UK.
Key responsibilities include:
- Procuring vehicles through leasing, purchase, or other means based on requirements, negotiating terms and pricing with manufacturers and vendors
- Planning and forecasting fleet purchases to align with operational needs and budgets, managing fleet budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations
- Managing and controlling the registration, licensing, and insurance of owned vehicles, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, safety standards, and Hours of Service (HOS) rules.
- Scheduling and overseeing vehicle maintenance, inspections, and servicing to minimise downtime.
- Utilising 3rd Party information and their fleet management software for streamlined processes and enhanced fuel economy
- Monitoring fleet business requirements to determine optimal replacement or disposal timing
- Maintaining and controlling vehicle condition to minimise BVRLA impact and maximise resale value
- Supporting recruitment, discipline, and termination of drivers, delivering regular online short video training for fleet drivers on safety standards, operational protocols, and technologies.
- Ensuring suitable CPC and Transport manager training as required and remote Transport Managers are trained to develop schedules and monitor adherence to working hours and regulations
- Tracking driver attendance, health, and performance, addressing issues where necessary
- Communicate operational updates and safety information to drivers, using telematics and ELD data to monitor and improve driving behaviours.
- Tracking fleet performance using GPS and telematics data
- Providing regular reports on operations, costs, and performance, identifying areas for improvement using data insights and ensuring reporting for ESG is in place
- Analysing expenses, focusing on fuel consumption and maintenance cost reduction
- Leading safety initiatives and compliance with transport and environmental regulations
- Fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including drivers, vendors, and senior management

About You
The ideal Fleet Manager will be/have:
- Previous fleet management experience, with familiarity of telematics and fleet managements systems
- Able to lead and make decisions, with excellent verbal and written communication
- Financially literate with experience of budgets, cost management and market trends and the ability to implement strategies to minimise vehicle costs and fuel consumption
- Regulatory knowledge, with the ability to promote safety through policies and monitoring tools.
- Advanced MS Excel skills, with capability to analyse data sets and providing actionable recommendations
- Relevant professional qualifications and certifications in fleet management
